I’m all about fiction. Currently, I’m editing The Dark Between, a medieval fantasy novel for the new adult age market. When I’m not writing, I coach other authors through the process of crafting novels that will endear readers, excite publishers, and launch their writing careers. I also co-host the weekly #StorySocial Twitter chat (Wednesdays at 9PM EST, if you’re interested in joining), where we discuss author branding in the online world. Oh, and Lord of the Rings – only Stephen Colbert can rival my love of Tolkien.
Because novels offer a way to multiply your single life into a thousand. Because therapy is expensive and pens are cheap. Because my brain just won’t shut up. Writing is simply a part of who I am. It livens up my day, filters the world into something I can almost understand, and – most importantly – brings me immeasurable joy.I began coaching as a way to live an independent, creative life. But more than simply becoming self-employed, I wanted to coach as a way to connect with other writers, begin building my author platform, and help new novelists through some of the struggles I experienced early on.
I’ve always been in love with stories. I had a fantastic first grade teacher who recognized my interest and put a chapter book in my hands. I haven’t been able to put them down since! The writing came later when I realized that the only thing better than reading a book was writing your own, especially since I spent more time dreaming up stories than anything else.As for creative coaching, the spark came after several miserable years of working for a popular coffee chain. I knew I wasn’t interested in working my way up the corporate ladder, but the fear of instability was palpable. Misery eventually outweighed anxiety, and I handed in my apron, built a website, and opened shop. I wouldn’t look back for the world.
