I am a freelance writer and social media manager with a 6 year old blog, Searching for the Happiness, which can be found in the Oakland Press online. Working as a freelancer has been an ideal career move for me. I am continuously challenged by getting the opportunity to write about a multitude of subjects. It’s wonderful to have a job where I love what I do and rarely becoming bored because there is always a new project to work on. On any given day, I might write a company blog post, website content, press release or a sell sheet. I also manage multiple social media accounts for a variety of big and small companies and individuals.
When I am not writing for my clients, I can be found snuggled up in an oversized chair, cup of tea by my side, writing posts for my own blog or working on my very first book, a memoir about living with cancer.
I have dreamed of becoming a professional writer since the 3rd grade when I fell in love with the books written by Judy Blume. Writing is like breathing for me and nothing is more satisfying than putting my thoughts to paper and seeing a story take form.
I am obsessed with reading and consistently have at least 3 books by my bedside waiting to be read as well as small piles of books scattered throughout the house. I love reading so much that I worry I won’t have time to read all the most interesting books in my lifetime.
I have always viewed books as a sort of photograph of a person’s life. If you were to look through my bookshelf which spans an entire wall in our family room you would see my reading history and what has interested me over the years. I have books saved from my entire life. I love to look over the books I own and reminisce about different times in my life based on the books I see. There are baby books from when I was pregnant and a book on New Zealand, a country I was certain I would move to one day. I have books on alternative treatments from when I was diagnosed with cancer and several biographies, many of which are about writers whose words have encouraged me as I have gotten stuck along the way in my own writing career.
Each day I work on client assignments. I plan out social media strategies and writing blog posts that will attract more traffic to customer websites. When I have finished working for my clients, I spend time on my own writing. I might write a post for my own blog, an article to submit to a publication or I continue working on my memoir.
