What, Why, How: Jean M. Peck

November 16, 2016 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

What: My very first piece of fiction was written in the 5th grade, entitled, "The Ugly Princess: Believe it or Not." It was inspired by all those fairy tales with beautiful princesses, but I worried about the ones who were not blonde, blue-eyed, and thin. I wanted to go the other way. That was about it for fiction, because I was soon drawn to journalism where I wrote about the kinds of people no … [Read more...]

Post-Election Change

November 14, 2016 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

hate love

After a brutal campaign This was one of the most disturbing presidential campaigns ever. The consequences for us and the world are profound, and I'm not sure any of us knows what to expect. Uncertainty is frightening. Yet, I noticed something very different when I took Clementine on a walk through Rochester's city park on this beautiful, sunny November afternoon. I'm not sure if it was my … [Read more...]

A woman who reads while she walks

November 7, 2016 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

How can anyone read a book while they walk? I've seen this woman in the Mount Avon Cemetery before, book held in one hand, eyes fixed on the page, as she winds her way through. An avid reader I almost hesitated to interrupt her, but she was all smiles when I asked if I could chat … [Read more...]

What, Why, How: Elaine Mcintosh

November 2, 2016 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

What: I am currently working on a collection of poems I may submit for chapbook publication. I seem to have consistent themes in my writing: nature, family/neighbor/community, and grief/loss. Why:    Writing poetry enables me to live fully in the moment; feel it, smell it, hear it, see it. That moment may be in the past or in the present and finding the words to make that moment live … [Read more...]

A Corgi Halloween

October 31, 2016 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

I admit it -- I like to dress my Welsh Pembroke corgi for Halloween. My husband looks at our dog, shakes his head and says to her, "Clementine, have some pride." lol! She enjoys Halloween because she gets a treat and lots of attention from trick-or-treaters who come to our door. They often want to take her picture. I don't get crazy. Nothing constricting or uncomfortable and I always consider her … [Read more...]
