Bookcase Credibility

June 1, 2020 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

Bookcases as personality indicators

If you are on Twitter, you must follow Bookcase Credibility @BCredibility for a hilarious, insightful review of people’s bookcases in light of the new reality of Zoom and at home conference calls.

I’m not sure who the owner of the account is, but they have 78.6K followers! They offer opinions on scanty shelves, sliding shelves, shelves full of toys but few books, stacked shelves, and even one poor woman who has no bookshelf, but you can see a photo of herself on the shelf behind her– “Freud would jump from his seat if shown this. Outwardly she needs no help but her unconscious dreams of a bookcase.”

They also make light of people who feature their own book(s) prominently on their shelf, as if to remind you their credibility.

The commentary is hilarious, whether or not you know the personalities.

And you, dear reader?

What might your bookcase say about you?

I bravely offer a shot of me with my bookcase for your appraisal.

Have you used Zoom? What’s in your background?

My bookcases are mostly secondhand purchases that line my basement walls except for one that my dad built me. That one I treasure in a bedroom filled with British commemoratives from my London travels. The bookcase itself holds lots of British books, mugs, & figurines. My dad, knowing I was a collector, gave me his hand drawn design for the bookcase with all the measurements. Another treasure as he’s gone now. My British dad.

    Love this post, Linda!
There is also a zoom-available background which shows (fake) bookshelves.
My background is the paintings in our dining room.

I guess we need to do an analysis of people’s art in zoom backgrounds! 😄

I have been avidly watching my favorite news commentators for background. Mostly bookshelves, but sometimes dogs come bounding on camera. I did one Zoom and moved about my writing room. At first I was at desk and my Billy shelves were behind me. Then I moved to my cozy chair where I’ve hung my largest promo poster, many books ago. I also had it framed. So a bit of that peeked into frame. I have to follow this hilarious commentator!

It is So interesting to see the backgrounds of some news commentators. One of my favorites is John Heilemann on MSNBC. He has an immaculate, modern kitchen and family room with light fixtures to die for. Who knew?! ,
Anyway, how fun to have your promo poster as a backdrop!

I liked when he did a segment outside with two pineapples on a picnic table behind him 😁
