Navigating Today’s Publishing World

January 20, 2025 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

From the Big Five to Self-publishing

These two excellent charts break down the pros and cons of the many different publishing routes that an author can take. They come courtesy of Jane Friedman, marketing and publishing guru. I’ve been following Jane’s posts and articles for years now and always learn something new. If you aren’t familiar with her, she is the Co-Founder of Open Road Integrated Media, and former President and Chief Executive Officer of Harper Collins Worldwide.

What is the best way to publish my work?

Jane says:

…there is no one path or service that’s right for everyone all the time; you should take time to understand the landscape and make a decision based on long-term career goals, as well as the unique qualities of your work. Your choice should also be guided by your own personality (are you an entrepreneurial sort?) and experience as an author (do you have the slightest idea what you’re doing?).

You can read more at Key Book Publishing Paths and download these two charts if you have trouble reading them here. And follow Jane!

Thank you for visiting.
