Music plays a role in In the Context of Love, and it helps establish the time period. The novel begins in the nineties, then travels back to the mid-seventies before catching back up to the nineties again, and pop culture references help set the tone. Maybe you can’t remember, or you never heard “Boogie Oogie Oogie,” but I think the title alone captures the disco era.
