What:
I focus on Children’s picture books and the sub genre is humor. I like to write stories that appeal to children and parents/grandparents, stories that the children will want to read over and over again. I heard from one parent that their four-year-old reads Bill Makes Cookies and now wants to read the book every day!
Why:
I am motivated to write from my own experiences as a child as well as my experience as a parent. In Balu Saves the Day, I touch on life in India which is where I was born. My other books are based on my children and their experiences, such as adopting a pet, or making a mess and blaming a fictional monster. I like to focus on the light hearted moments that are both relatable and funny.
How:
I am a pantser {an author who writes by the seat of their pants] by nature. Sometimes the ideas for stories pop into my head and I weave the story around characters, but I may not actually sit and write the whole story for a while. It may be because I am knee-deep in another story that has a deadline, however, my mind continues to work on the idea and an outline forms, and then I write down the outline and save it for when I can focus my full attention on developing that story. Often I have multiple such stories waiting to be worked on.
I edit my work several times before engaging a professional editor. My children edit for me and suggest titles or variations to improve the book. I have to find the right illustrator for each book or series. I reach out to writing groups on Facebook and get opinions on cover design.. With the effort it takes for each I may sometimes not get to finish an idea right away. However when the time comes to pick my next project usually I know exactly what I want to work on.
Bio:
I am an Indian American author, who lives in Michigan. I have written several children’s books based on my own experiences and observations. I love animals and children and write to combine both my passions.
I am self-published under the name of Pria Dee. I have always been an avid reader and loved both reading and storytelling growing up. I have written for years and have many works in progress but did not have the time and resources to see the projects through to publication until recently. Now I am blessed to be able to combine my passion and creativity in bringing the joy of reading to young children.
One of my dreams is to write for every stage of childhood so my readers can grow up with my books. I aim to write books that speak to the heart of what I love most about children; spirited, fun, and innocent. I am a parent myself and with my children, I shared experiences like the ones in my stories such as my little ones trying to do things without adult supervision and getting into trouble. I hope my books bring the humor of everyday situations home to young readers. Happy reading!
