With temps in the low 40s and the sun shining brightly, rare for mid-February, lots of folks were walking their pooches in the city park on Sunday. Many were dressed in fancy coats too.
Big, but fancy
I love the paws print on this doggy’s coat, but check out the real paws! They are huge. This Great Dane was a whole lotta dog for Clementine, who cautiously allowed him to sniff her nose before ducking away. She needn’t worry; he really was a gentle giant, however.
At fifteen years old, this little woofer, above, was super friendly, and he and Clementine had a fun time getting their leashes tangled up. His checkered coat was fashioned like pajamas with a button trap door in the back. Apparently he’d just had surgery near his right hip, and the coat served as protection until the area healed. I still can’t believe he was 15.
This fellow’s owners said he was “cranky“ that day, so I kept Clementine away while I snapped his picture. He looked pleased when I I told him I’d make him famous. I think he has a noble face.
My personal favorite
Meet Harry Potter. Yes, that’s his actually name. A scarf in winter, especially a Harry Potter scarf, is a perfectly acceptable winter accessory. Harry was super friendly.
Phew!
Clementine was happy and tired after socializing with so many other doggies. A gray-haired lady in a white coat and pink sweatpants, walking with a silver cane, complimented Clementine’s plaid coat while jokingly asking if it was the “proper” plaid for her breed (which is Welsh). It was her opening to tell me she was Irish, and the plaid for her name was blue and gray. She also said she loved being in the park and seeing all the dogs. Indeed, she stopped to pat every dog she could on the head and chat with the owners. Walking in the park that day definitely was a social event.
I also noticed everyone loved the idea of me photographing their dogs. Of course, what pet owner isn’t proud of their pooch?
