This Writer’s New Best Friend: We adopted a corgi

March 21, 2012 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

Corgi

Our family adopted an adorable, energetic one-year old Pembroke Corgi. I have a feeling that training and caring for Clementine will suck up considerable writing time. On the other hand, I’m hoping it will help give my days more structure.

One good thing is I’m getting up in the morning much earlier than I have in a long time. This has resulted in my head dropping onto my keyboard about midday, which I’m trying to combat with more coffee, despite my stomach’s tendency to protest.

I’m sure the hilarity of life with a breed that has been described as a “megalomaniac,” “a big dog with little legs,” a “Twinkie” and a “bullet of muscle” will leak into my fiction, as life often does.

Clementine needs retraining, structure, socialization, obedience, and lots of love and affection. I notice when we call her name, she runs in the opposite direction. Same when we bring out a broom to sweep the floor.

We are happy to have her.
