Serenity is officially out in the world!
I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what it means to release a character into the world. While I was writing Serenity, she belonged to me. I knew why she worried, why she overthought, why she made decisions that might make a perfectly sensible person want to shake her.
But once a book is published, the author doesn’t get to explain the characters anymore. And that’s as it should be.
Oh shit.
This is actually happening. lol You can now walk into your favorite independent bookstore and buy a copy or ask them to order Love and Other Incurable Ailments!
My Publication Day Survival Kit
As I celebrate the manuscript that has finally become a real book, I will have:
- Kisses from a dog who does not understand publishing: where’s the cheese in this? Can I go on tour, too?
- A phone handy for compulsively checking things I should not be checking.
- A stack of bookmarks with painstakingly hand-tied seashell charms.
- A stack of custom made “Overthinker” stickers.
- Dinner with a husband who’s patiently tolerated a million conversations about writing, publishing, and marketing.
- An unreasonable amount of nervous energy.
- Absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to do with said energy
My wish is that this story finds the readers who recognize something of themselves in Serenity. The overthinkers. The worriers. The people who have been told they’re too sensitive, too needy, too much. The people who have spent a lot of time wondering why everyone else has their life together. (hint: read the book and learn that they don’t!)
And, of course, the people who would love to take a trip to Ocracoke without leaving their couch.
Look for the book at these wonderful bookstores:
In Michigan:
Novel: A Book and Sandwich Shop in Rochester (signed copies!)
Sidetrack Books in Royal Oak
The Road Less Traveled, Farmington
Whistler’s Daughter Books in Ferndale
Literati in Ann Arbor
The Bookman in Grand Haven

The Book Beat in Oakpark
In North Carolina:

Of course, you can also order it from Regal House, Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, Amazon. I recommend Bookshop.org because a local indie bookstore will receive a portion of the sale, so it’s a win-win!
