Oversharing for Fun and Connection: Weird Facts Edition

August 24, 2026 By Linda K Sienkiewicz

Author Linda K. Sienkiewicz with a small sign that reads "had too much caffeine today"

Weird facts I probably shouldn’t share

When my mother took me to the library, I’d sneak off to the poetry section to look for sexual metaphors in Victorian verse.

The first time I read a poem in public, my mouth was so dry that my lips stuck to my teeth, and my hand shook so violently that I couldn’t bring a glass of water to my lips to take a drink.

I met my husband after last call in the Brown Derby Luv Pub on a lighted, blinking, multicolor dance floor under a mirror ball in Independence, Ohio.

Quirks and cringe-worthy truths

I have what I call inattentive clumsiness. My mother once grabbed me (when I was an adult!) from stepping off the sidewalk straight into traffic in downtown Cleveland.

I am easily distracted. A crumb on a table. A humming noise. An itch.

I had weird compulsions when I was young. I bargained with the universe: walk a whole block without stepping on a leaf, and I’d get asked to the movies that afternoon; if I nailed a cartwheel, I’d ace that upcoming spelling test.

I tripped onstage in the first play I starred in. As a town crier, I rang a bell and announced the time as I walked across the stage. Everyone laughed. That was the last play I starred in.

The mildly amusing

My mother taught me to read music and play the organ. I played flute in my high school marching band and orchestra.

My parents never taught me the Finnish language so they could talk to each other without me understanding. I was sure most of what they said was about me, but they were more likely simply insufferable gossips.

I have a habit of predicting or dissecting plots aloud during TV shows and movies. My family hates me for this.

As a picture framing designer, I was given projects no one else could do, particularly if they involved sewing. My favorite job was designing and framing a jacket signed by Ron Woods of The Rolling Stones.

I craft old books and album covers into purses. I couldn’t wait to make one from my first book.

Okay, I confessed. Now it’s your turn! Tell me a little-known fact about yourself!
